Posted by Alberto Ferrer on Jul 30, 2007
A paper recently published in the Journal of Applied Psychology describes the results of a study seeking to link the moods of leaders with their teams. I read an excerpt of the paper as published in Rotman, the magazine of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Posted by Alberto Ferrer on Jul 27, 2007
The 07/23/07 issue of Television Week brings us an article written by Adam Armbruster, a retail and broadcast consultant. He’s written for the publication before and on this topic as well. This time, however, Adam seems to be off his rocker, as are the folks quoted in the piece.
Citing an Innerscope Research report for NBC [...]
DRTV Ads Do Well in DVR Homes
Posted by Alberto Ferrer on Jul 26, 2007
Brian Steinberg writes in the 07/16/07 issue of Advertising Age about which television spots are more prone to keep viewers from fast-forwarding. DRTV ads kicked butt.
The data comes from TiVo’s StopWatch, available since February of this year, which measures second-by-second viewership from a random sample of 20,000 TiVo units. Two months of data were released [...]

A Forrester Research study of Hispanics and mobile phones points to the fact that Hispanics significantly over-index in their consumption of mobile data services. The data sheds some light into Hispanic consumer behavior with mobile phones. Here are a few excerpts:

Behavior Rules!

I read an interesting article in the 07/16/07 issue of Advertising Age. The article, “Behavior Defines Consumers” by Tom Neveril of Storybrand Consulting, appeared in the CMO Strategy section of the publication.
While essentially a research-related article, I found it valuable for marketers in general to consider what Neveril writes in the context of marketing communications. [...]
Building Leaders vs. Building Leadership

I recently read at article by Dave Ulrich and Norm Smallwood in the July-August 2007 issue of Harvard Business Review that advocates companies focus on leadership instead of leaders. The authors are partners and co-founders of RBL Group, a leadership development and human resource education consultancy.
The authors submit that some companies produce a steady supply [...]

The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) 2006 Hispanic Market Survey underscores the fact that Hispanics as a whole are very receptive to direct mail, substantially more so than general market consumers.
Specifically, the factoids noted are as follows:
71% of Hispanic consumers indicate that they read direct mail
70% of Hispanic adults who speak Spanish at home said they [...]
More on the Impact of DVRs
Posted by Alberto Ferrer on Jul 2, 2007
Published 06/06/07 on AdAge.com was an interesting article that continues the topic of how the increased use of DVRs is impacting the consumers’ TV-viewing behavior.
This time, the research study mentioned by author Brian Steinberg hails from IAG Research and found a few interesting tidbits of information. First and most concerning is that “people who use [...]
Agency Compensation Based on Value Generated?
Posted by Alberto Ferrer on Jul 2, 2007
We’ve all heard the discussion about agency compensation issues and how the current model of basing agency charges on costs (hours-based fees) has several problems. For clients, paying fees based on how much effort an agency expends falls short of aligning the interests of the client with those of the agency. For agencies, getting compensated [...]
